Your Vet’s Talk About Hosts
Katja Görts DVM, CVA (IVAS), CVC, CVCH

Dr. Katja Görts decided to become a veterinarian – either that or a farmer – at the age of four. Consequently, she went to Veterinary school in Hannover, Germany where she graduated from in 1999. She made first contact with holistic veterinary medicine during her first years in Veterinary school and fostered that interest even during the almost 10 years she worked in the pharmaceutical industry in various medical positions. Also, encouraged by some of her professors, she already started teaching undergraduate veterinary and biology students while still studying herself.
Katja found her holistic practice for horses (80 %) and small animals (20 %) in 2009. She is certified in Veterinary Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Kinesiology, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Western Herbal Medicine and Advanced Neuroacupuncture.
Besides her practice, teaching and lecturing in Germany as well as internationally for several basic courses, continuing education seminars, and conferences on various topics is one of her favorite things to do.
She was GerVAS president from 2015 – 2019 and is the current IVAS Past President. In her spare time Dr. Görts likes horseback riding, skiing, and traveling. She lives in a rural area in northern Bavaria, Germany with her husband and one Border Terrier.
Amy Watson, MA, VetMB, MRCVS, GDVCHM, CVA, ACVCHM, CCRT

Dr. Amy Watson started learning about and using acupuncture a decade ago, starting with the ABVA foundation course and she completed her IVAS certification in 2016. Since then, she has completed her Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine with IVAS, and her Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine with CIVT. She is on the committee for the British Association of Herbal Vets. She owns a small clinic in a small rural village in the deepest darkest Dorset in the southwest of the UK, providing acupuncture, herbs, canine rehab, and laser therapy to her patients. There’s still some resistance to these treatment modalities in the UK from the veterinary profession, particularly the herbs, but she is working on trying to change vets’ perceptions.
When she is not working, she’s charging around after two kids who are 7 and 10 years old. They are at times somewhat over-enthusiastic about embracing life to the full, her aim here is to try and keep them alive! And I have three dogs to run me ragged even more, a border terrier, a Labrador and miniature wire-haired dachshund. She also does love a bit of iyengar yoga.
