The work of IVAS is as far-reaching and varied as its membership. IVAS' membership is almost 2,000 members strong, and one of the greatest strengths of the IVAS Annual Congress on Veterinary Acupuncture is the talented and diverse audience that it attracts from around the world.

Veterinarians with backgrounds including veterinary acupuncture, traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, holistic veterinary medicine, veterinary chiropractic, university educators, students, researchers, and other complementary veterinary services will travel to this event from across the United States and from around the world. Every attendee brings with him/her a unique background and experiences. We come as much for the renewal of spirit and the networking opportunities as for the superior information sharing. The spirit, energy, and commitment of our members are what make the IVAS Annual Congress such an exceptional event.

Now in its 35th year, the IVAS Annual Congress on Veterinary Acupuncture will be held August 26th through 29th, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas USA. This invigorating Congress, which brings together the best hearts and minds in veterinary acupuncture, will feature keynote lecturers, topic specific breakout sessions, canine and equine wet labs, exhibits, and a Gala Banquet.

We are arranging day tours for family members and perhaps a few evening excursions for the adventurous spirits. Capture the romance of San Antonio with at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk. 2009 Keynote Speakers
 
 
Dr. Bruce Ferguson
We would like to welcome as one of the keynote speakers Dr. Bruce Ferguson. Dr. Ferguson graduated with his Masters Degree in Animal Behavior in 1986 from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He graduated with honors with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1992 from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He was certified in Veterinary Acupuncture and Veterinary Herbal Medicine from the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine in 1999. Dr. Ferguson has also attended human acupuncture school but has elected to not be a licensed human acupuncturist due to his passion for his veterinary patients. Bruce lectures at veterinary colleges and at scientific meetings nationally and internationally in the field of TCVM. Bruce has trained and taught oriental martial and meditative arts for over 25 years and includes Qigong practice in his presentations. Dr. Bruce Ferguson is both a practitioner and instructor in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). His practice is referral-based in Perth, Western Australia. Dr. Ferguson offers Veterinary Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Tui Na, and Whole Food Therapy to his veterinary patients.
 
We also welcome Dr. K. Hwa Choi. Dr. Choi received her DVM (1976, Seoul City University) and MS on Veterinary Microbiology (1980, Seoul National University) in Korea, and her PhD in Veterinary PathoBiology (1990, University of Minnesota) and has completed post doctoral work in immunology and molecular biology (1993, University of Minnesota). She worked as a junior and senior scientist at the National Veterinary Research Institute for eight years (Anyang, Korea). She trained at the INRA (Institute National Research Agriculture; Thiverval Grinion, France) and Pasteur Institute (Paris, France). She is also trained in Human Traditional Oriental Medicine in Korea, China and the USA, and Veterinary Acupuncture through her IVAS certification. Dr. Choi started the Integrative Medicine Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota seven years ago and receives more than 1,800 cases annually. Dr. Choi has also seen human patients at Dr. Choi’s Acupuncture and Health Center (St. Paul, MN).
 
 
Dr. Deborah Mitchell
Dr. Deborah Mitchell is a 1983 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She holds a Master’s degree in Field Zoology from Southern Illinois University. In 1986, she completed an externship in neurology and cardiology at Animal Medical Center in New York. In 1993 she achieved her Certification as a Veterinary Acupuncturist through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. In 1996 she achieved her Certification in Veterinary Chiropractic through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. In 2001, Dr. Mitchell completed her formal Traditional Chinese Medicine basic herbal training in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She lectures extensively on veterinary acupuncture, veterinary chiropractic, traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and integrative practice management. Her hospital, Knollwood Hospital for Pets, has consistently achieved the American Animal Hospital Association’s highest ranking, and it continues to confound AAHA by offering a unique blend of complementary and traditional veterinary services.

Registration
A basic full Congress registration includes one buffet lunch on Thursday and Friday, one complimentary banquet ticket, one copy of the Congress proceedings, and one entry into the drawing for a free Congress registration for the 2010 Annual Congress. The winner will be drawn at the Banquet.
 
A one or two day registration will include one copy of the Congress proceedings. Individual Banquet tickets are available for purchase along with the one or two day registrations. Due to the in-depth instruction involved with the wetlabs you must register for the IVAS Congress for at least a one day registration in addition to the wetlab fees in order to attend a wetlab.
