IVAS Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine Short Course
With Steve Marsden, DVM
March 26-28, 2010
Seattle, Washington USA

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this short course is to assist the veterinarian in learning to maximize their results with Chinese veterinary herbal medicine. The course will equip the attendee with a thorough understanding of the 20 most important formulas in Chinese veterinary herbal medicine through review and study of:

The herb’s Chinese medical indications and how they manifest in modern clinical practice.
A formula’s individual component herbs and how they interact and work within the formula.
The safe and accurate use of formulas based on detailed history, physical examination and laboratory findings.

Emphasis will be on classical formulas that are available from a wide number of companies and how to source and recognize good quality herbs. In addition, the attendee will learn how to integrate herbs into a modern medical practice including:

How formulas are understood to work in conventional terms.
How to make appropriate changes to the prescription in light of various clinical outcomes.
How to address and avoid side effects.

It is typical after this course for veterinarians to experience success in the majority of cases they treat with herbs. The veterinarian will be able to apply the knowledge from this course to treat conditions they see in their practice daily such as lameness, allergic dermatitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
